Welcome to Finnerang summer camp! We have another fantastic set of camp counselors this year from our beloved Saint Mary's boarding school for girls. They'll be meeting dozens of wonderful young men rediscovering life without bullying in partnership with the boy scouts. What awaits them is a week long adventure discovering nature, overcoming obstacles, and exploring the intimate relationships that connect all of us no matter our background.
Jeanie was more than a little nervous about being chosen as a camp counselor. She wasn't much of an out-doorsy type, and she had never really been around boys on her own. Books were her thing, especially writing darkly sexual fan fiction starring her fantasy self. Jeanie-at-Hogwarts was a poor Ravenclaw witch turned Slytherin groupy, 'wanded' quite regularly. She may not have so much as kissed a boy in real life, but if you counted her hair brush and toothbrush, then Jeanie had a very active high school sex life.
Besides, girls had been going to camp for years, and St. Mary's had a strict abstinence policy. If any of those girls had admitted that something was happening at camp, they would have been investigated and suspended, maybe even expelled. So it must be alright. The boys would all be younger than her, she'd be the one in charge for sure. Stacy had a really good suggestion to: don't wear a bra, and the boys will be fawning over her.
'Camp Fingerbang' was a reward that the boy scouts dangled in front of the troubled youth kids in the program. Middle schoolers identified as bullies went through a crash course of camping, knot-tying and team-building survival skills designed to 'reorient' their harassing behavior before starting high school. Forty boys from around the country who showed real progress got to spend a week with twenty slightly older girls from Saint Mary's with no almost adult supervision for a week.
The first night of camp was orientation - one big meet and mingle. For each of the next five days, the kids would split off into one boy / one girl or three boy / one girl pairings for a day of adventure. The pair or foursome had all day to find clues and complete the task, whether it involved canoeing, geo-caching, obstacle courses or something else. At night, the group would build a fire and spend the night getting to know each other swapping life stories over smores. The next morning, they would meet at their designated meet-up point, switch up the girls on the team, and start again.
Camp Finnerang wasn't without its scandals, but what summer camp isn't? Last year, seven of the twenty St. Mary's girls found out they were pregnant shortly after camp. An investigation showed that there was no illicit contact between the administration and the girls though, so it was ruled unrelated. Senior counselors also came across scenes of panties and bra's hanging from tree branches near some of the adventure sites, which beared resemblance to the kind of 'rape trees' that immigration officials often found along smuggling routes. Finally, after consistent complaints from the girls, the staff had to order the boys not to show off their knot-tying skills by tying up the girls. Setting up tents for them is a much more gentlemanly demonstration.
