These are some big problems and they will require long term solutions. Education is the key. I grew up in a home with a single mom, dad thrown out after too many fists to the face. She worked 2 jobs and was never home. I always felt bad she had to work so hard and ask if there was anything i can do. She said my job was to go to school and get a good education (helping around the house goes with out questions :-). She made sure we knew right and wrong, who the boss was and work hard in the math/sciences. Education starts at home and so long as kids are told at home that education is important to you (the parent) than so it will become important to the child. Our children are a mirror image of the way we bring them up so... bring them up well.
