So, what did he ever do to you?

Nothing, since he died years before I was born. Jack the Ripper never did
anything to me either, but I hope he's also rotting in hell. Dillinger, Capone,
and the like were murderous thugs, so may they rot in hell.

Dillinger's response was that he never shot at anyone who wasn't shooting at him.

"Social bandit" is a better descriptor for Dillinger than "gangster". Capone and Lucky Luciano were gangsters (organized crime bosses). Dillinger merely robbed banks.

"Social bandit" or "latter day Robin Hood" is an overly romanticized notion.
Dillinger robbed banks and gave to himself. To be sure, banks behaved badly
back then as they have recently, which explains his popularity as some sort of
"rebel who stuck it to The Man."

Of course there's some romanticism in the concept of the social bandit. But that doesn't mean that there isn't some truth to it also, as you indicate. To merely call Dillinger a criminal and not indict the bankers as well (as Woody Guthrie did) is wholly one-sided.

Wow, Zagg idolizes Dillinger...big surprise!!! Obama is the same as Dillinger insomuch as he steals from hard working Americans. Obama just uses "executive orders" instead of a tommy gun. We get it Zagg, anyone who earns an honest day's pay, you resent.
