I have about $13000 in debt racked up on one credit card. I can only afford payments of about $400 a month. I start thinking about how long that's going to take to pay off, and I get depressed. Then, I just say, "Fuck it" and don't worry about it until the next time I wire my payment, and I realize the balance hasn't gone down. Then I get depressed again. At least internet porn is free.

Get a low interest fixed rate loan, pay off the credit card and you save a ton of money.

Man, I wish I had a CC with that high a limit in the first place! I'm a high earner with good credit, but yet none of these bastards will give me anything over $5,000... pathetic :(

If you need to use a credit card, you can't afford it. If you do it anyway, you're an idiot and deserve what's coming for you.

umm....call the credit card company and sk them to close and settle the acount.
That is what consolidators do...but you can do it yourself.
tell them you want to close and ask for a settlement.
Usually reduces debt to 50-65% of actual amount.
then you make interest free payments on it for a set time.
have doen this several times now!

The economy is in shambles. If theres people losing their homes can you imagine how many people arent paying their credit cards? Call them, let them know your situation, and tell them that you can only afford $400 a month. I maxed out 5 of my credit cards totalling to about $20,000 and havent paid anything on any of them. Cant afford too! And I had A1 credit before all of this. So believe me, your not the only one going thru it. Theres alot of others doing alot worse.

Thanks for the advice guys; I've actually cut up the card in disgust. Although, that's a little disingenuous because I have the number memorized and it's the back-up funding source for my PayPal account.
Anyways, my bank called today out of the blue trying to sell me on a "Premier credit line" -- it's a bit of a better deal, but still between 7 and 10 percent interest, and it's not even a fixed rate. Not worth it in my opinion -- it'll save money, but he seemed pretty pessimistic about getting me approved to pay off the entire balance. That's all I need -- another line of credit and another payment to make each month. I'm going to try to figure out how to ask my brother to loan me the money to pay it off; I know he can get an equity loan on one of his real estate properties at a really good rate.
Despite all this, I actually have very good credit. Of the three reporting agencies, my least favorable score is with Experian at 725. The other two have me at 800+ (whatever that means -- I thought 800 was the best you could have. I might have gotten it mixed up with SAT scores, though). I was thinking about buying a house soon; I wonder if you can get a mortgage loan for an amount that's more than what you're paying for the house? I imagine it's only possible if the house is appraised for more than what you're paying for it. That might be a good way to go....
In the meantime, I'll take your guys' advice and call the CC company and see if they'll at least lower my interest rate. I've heard that asking to close your account can hurt your credit, so I'd try to avoid that.
P.S. I know not all internet porn is free. I actually used to belong to several pay sites, which is how some of that debt accumulated. Although I don't upload porn to this site, I have uploaded to other "legal-grey-area" porn sites, including puretna.com. So get off your high horse -- and by that, I don't mean force him to smoke pot and then give him a handjob.
