Sean penn is being moronic. Hope it helps to say that he has little influence in the U.S. , the majority here still back the U.K. on this one, and did during the eighties too.
The problem is people in South America, and even some in Europe and the U.S., like Sean Penn, think that Because you used to be an empire that you took over the island from the poor natives, or even forced the Argentinians out with your ruthlessly effective Empire.
To be fair, you did so a lot of that in the old days, but I think you need to make public statements by high ranking people, things like "Argentina didnt even exist when the islands were first settled, how could they have a claim to it?"
or
"There were no natives on the Islands that were exterminated/ kicked off"
Things like that.
I know it's shouldn't be your job to educate people about things they are making accusations about. But this is unfortunately they way people like Sean Penn are, they speak without knowing the facts.
AS an American I can't tell you how many times Ive told people from other countries that you will still get health treatment even if you cant pay for it, or dont have insurance. They dont let you die. (but you will still go into debt and get a huge bill).
Its the same with the Falklands, they take their prejudices and make assumptions and and say really dumb things without checking the facts.
