its the opposite of television. they always make it seem like something dramatic is about to happen like a fight or something breaks, then it goes to commercial, then afterwards it turns out NOTHING happened.

i dont mind the auction shows.. it just makes me mad how ppl get ripped of in those pawn shows.. ppl only go to pawn shops when they are on the low-end of life. they sale their most prized possesions and family heirlooms , and these fuckers give them maybe 20% of the true value of the worth of thier item. I just seen a woman sale a revelutionary war artifact, that had alot of our nations fathers signatures for 4500, when it was valued at 25,000. most people barely leave with enough money to put gas in their cars

I know you don't get it, but I'll try to explain it to you:
A pawn shop is a business that buys/sells things and also gives loans against an item.
When they buy something, they try to sell it for a profit. They can't pay full retail price for things because, who will buy it for more?
So, people take things there for an appraisal, or to sell/pawn them, or both. I would guess that it would be people who need or want quick cash and don't want to pay an auction house to do it for them.
Now, Hardcore Pawn is very entertaining because of the Detroit trash that crawls out from the sewer thinking that they're entitled to money simply because they need it. That show can make a person a tad racist by watching it, by the way. And it seems pretty real to me, I've been there and the crowd is pretty much the exact way that they're depicted on the show: Greedy, pushy, rude, mouthy & "entitled" negros.

i tried selling my guitar amplifier, which cost $750 retail, and they offered me $225. he even told me he would go on to sell it for $500 out the store.
the way they look at it, they DONT NEED your stuff. they know you need THEM.

the show pawn stars is all mainestream a have a few things to back it up. first thing is that my buddy of mine went to vegas to get marred and there honeymoon was to go to the paw shop,but when they got there,they were there for about 10 20 min and they booted people out to start the show.they only pick certian things that they want to put on the air,and its not like they use random people either,there all hand picked,pluse the fat fucks cant pawn there own peckers if it were to save there lives,not like they can see it lol,anyways if you watch any episodes youll see that when it comes to making i deal they always say "i gotta call my guy",what the fuck is up with that if your a real hustla you would know the prices on the market. thats all i have to say

What kind of naive fantasy land to you live in? Business is the art of taking advantage. There is no such thing as a business that endeavors to be fair to its customers. The whole point of business is to generate a product or service for as little money as possible and sell it for as much money as possible.
If you're short on your rent and facing homelessness tomorrow if you don't pay it, you have two realistic options: A) Prostitution, and B) Sell some possessions. Most people would rather not resort to the former, and many don't have the option anyway. Pawn shops exist because the latter option is a necessary part of everybody's life at one time or another (unless you were born rich, grew up rich, and stayed rich, in which case none of this applies to you anyway). Because pawn shops are in business to make money doesn't mean they're taking undue advantage of anyone. A pawn shop owner who says "Well, I think I should give you full retail on this item and potentially take a loss for myself, just because it's the right thing to do" will go out of business in about four days. And pawn shop employees keep or lose their jobs based on who has the biggest margin between retail value and money paid for an item.
So a pawn shop pays you 20% retail value on something and you wail about how badly he's taken advantage of you. The owner of that shop has to pay the rent on his building, payroll, payroll taxes, income taxes, state taxes, local taxes, worker's comp, probably half a dozen different insurance premiums, day-to-day operational expenses, and support his own family and household. For the 80% retail markup he gets (if he's lucky) on your item, he's fortunate if 5% of that winds up in his pocket as profit.

All you need to do is a little research into the value of your item before you sell to anyone. I have collected antiques for 35 years and I would never go to a pawnshop to buy or sell.there are just way to many other options nowadays. How many times have you seen some guy tell them he wants 1000 dollars and they tell him we will give you fifty and they say ok I guess thats the best I can do. The people that go there just want to be on TV.

We should tax the pawnshops more, Ive never seen a business that takes advantage of a situation as much as pawn shops. Someone cant afford to pay their own rent, Yet u guys take 80 percent of their items worth from them, be fucking reasonable, take 60. You guys expect the people to pay your shop rent, your house rent, your employees, your state tax, your federal tax, while u rape them blind. They dont even have enough money to pay their own rent when they are done with you fuckers, And then that title loan shit is ridiculousl , you guys purposely do shit to try to keep that persons car in the end. If sumone cant afford to 600 rent , and they put their $5000 car loan on the line, what makes u think that a person who cant even pay 600, can pay 1500 to get their car back?
