WW1 was all but over when you lot came over. Germany was being starved of resources and it's politicians were turning on one another. American troops were a danger to themselves during WW1. They hadn't been given the right equipment for the trenches and used tactics long abandoned by the French and British because they caused a high percentage of casualties. Your Generals insisted on attacking during the final months of the war when the German people were near breaking point. US servicemen died for no reason. FACT.
Now, your grandad? Might have risked his arse in WW2, which does deserve recognition. To say YOU saved us is just arrogance. Britain was on it's own for a huge part of WW2, don't they deserve recognition for that? Or the Ruskies? They lost a HUGE amount of people fighting the Nazis. Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, France, Poland, how many bloody others? To say Americas contribution was worth more than all others is just you being a cunt and you know it.
Germany declared war on the U.S. after Pearl Harbour, you had no choice but to fight them. The Allies were grateful for your troops, but you don't seem to realise that the War against Japan was nothing to do with us at all. I could just as easily say my Grandfather spent a year in a Japanese prisoner of War camp so that you don't speak Japanese, couldn't I?
