I would like to see data which correlates gun ownership and gun deaths per capita per country. And then correlate that with knives and knife deaths per capita per country. And then we can see if there is a causal link between guns and gun deaths.

Possible reasons:

1. mores guns leads to more gun deaths - if guns are more available, they'll be more commonly used in violent crimes
2. more gun deaths leads to more guns - if people aren't safe because there's so many people getting shot, they'll buy guns to make themselves feel more secure
3. there is no direct link between number of guns and number of gun deaths, but both are influenced by another factor - e.g. Americans have such lax gun laws that any crazy man can buy lots of guns, any unstable lunatic can buy guns to kill lots of people, guns are not given the respect they deserve so parents leave loaded guns in a bedroom drawer within easy access for their kids.
