@Olddognewtricks had to stop the maggots feasting and compression at the site of the wound allowed clotting. Pity, it was not to much blood that would be worrisome but it flooded the wound and they could not feed plus they fed on the blood which was outside and clotted.

More than a few days old all they want to do is pupate. I am trying to grow my own on mince meat in the garden but not many flys yet!
